CITIZEN Watch is releasing new models from its TSUYOSA collection that bring colour and fun to the everyday. The first exciting new model is TSUYOSA’s first-ever collaboration with French creative seconde/seconde/, resulting in a watch design that fuses art and humour. Four additional sporty TSUYOSA models are also being released at the same time.

For this new collaboration model, seconde/seconde/ took inspiration from the name TSUYOSA, meaning “power” and “strength” in Japanese. The minute hand has been transformed into a katana as a symbol of this power and strength. The sword is rendered in the pixel art style of retro Japanese video games known and loved all over the world, resulting in a unique, offbeat design. In a humorous touch, the indices appear to have been sliced in half by the razor-sharp sword. The dial and the hilt of the sword are an appealing blue colour that highlights the playful design of the sword and the indices. The clasp of the bracelet features deft sword slashes, and the case back is printed with a powerful message from seconde/seconde/ - “Being smaller has never stopped Minutes from slicing Hours into pieces.” This model is limited to 3,600 pieces worldwide - the number 3,600 is taken from the image of slicing one hour into 3,600 seconds, inspired by the way the katana minute hand slices through the indices. This special collaboration model combines both a quirky sensibility and a special message.

seconde/seconde/ artist and watch customizer Romaric André explains: “As a creative always trying to fusion the opposites in order to create impactful contrast, it is such an exciting venture to collaborate with a brand like CITIZEN. Just a French guy on one side. And a huge and historical Japanese brand on the other. The best collaborations are usually those that bring together parties that initially seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum.”

seconde/seconde/ is the creative identity of Paris-based artist and watch-customizer Romaric André, known for blending horology with conceptual, often mischievous visual art. His work, initially focused on vintage watches, later expanded to include wall-clocks and modern wrist- watches with the desire of “highlighting the tension between heritage craftsmanship and today’s fast-paced visual language”. The 40+ collaborations he made with some of the world's most renowned brands have gained attention for their “sweetly provocative” cleverness and ability to spark conversation, encouraging us to rethink the role of design, humor, and symbolism of those close and personal companions that watches are.

Four new TSUYOSA models with designs based on the concept of “shore” are being released at the same time. With water resistance up to 10 BAR, they are perfect companions for active lifestyles. The new colours - navy blue, marine blue, moss green, and coral red - are inspired by colours found in the sea and on the shore, bringing new colour into everyday life.
